Finding Yourself - Dreams vs. Reality

In today’s world there are so many events going on in our own lives and around us in our own community, country, and world. It is easy to get so wrapped up in our daily routines, especially in New York. I swear in this city, time flies faster than anywhere else I have been. One moment it is January, you blink and it is October already, time for the holidays. Under the pressure of adult duties, there is also the pressure we put on ourselves of not achieving what we wished to achieve in our lives by the age we are today. Now let me tell you, as a kid we can dream of being at any position in our career, relationship, or life. However though, dreaming and obtaining the reality are two completely different things. When I was in elementary school I wanted to be a teacher. When I reached middle school I wanted to be a meteorologist. Then by high school I was convinced I was going to become a lawyer, get my bachelor’s degree by 22, meet me soul mate in college, build my career, get married, buy a house, and pop some babies. I mean that is the American way, no?

Well, let’s just say the reality now is far from what I thought it would be. I took 2 years off between high school and college. I am working on my associate’s degree. I am far from buying a house (or an apartment for that matter); and I definitely don’t have a law certificate hanging in living room. But I will tell you, that where I am today in my life, I am proud. I am proud that I didn’t give up modeling three years ago when I was living off of $100 dollars a week in a city where a 6 oz. of blueberries is $6 and buying a one-bedroom apartment costs around $1 million dollars. I am proud that I learned how to actually style myself, wear make-up, do my hair, and take care of my skin and body. I didn’t consider these even an important skill in my high school years. I am proud how I have evolved, and how I have grown. So, the point of this whole post, is that you might not be where you thought you would be today, but I am sure you have achieved different milestones that you didn’t expect to. I am also sure that you have grown in ways unimaginable. So, in the craziness of life don’t forget to find yourself. Don’t forget to look at your life, your path, and be grateful for the progress you have achieved. You are amazing, you are capable of anything, and most importantly don’t ever take the first no as a definite no. You must fail some to achieve your goals, and appreciate the outcome that much more.
