Self Help and Your Journey Through Life

Oh the two words, self-help. When you read or hear these words some kind of emotion will always pop into your head. Whether it is a positive excitement to grow and improve upon yourself or an explosion of negative emotion and feeling of unworthiness. Self-help books, learning, and self-discovery can be extremely overwhelming. It is a process that you start and you actually never end and accomplish.

The beauty of self-help and inner exploration is that your mind and body need different things at different moments in your life depending on your experiences, memories, and timing of the different stages of your life.

I started my self-help journey about five years ago. I always had a deep pull to learning about psychology and how the mind works. I have read numerous books and the beauty is that each book that I read I was either drawn to by some skill I wanted to work on or the book found me in a sense and it ended up being a perfect read for that moment in my life. You do not have to read books to even grow or discover who you are on a deeper level. You could even find this through journaling, podcasts, or even therapists.

My point to you today is that no one is perfect.

No one is perfect no matter how perfect they seem to be. Everyone is on their own journey with their own issues and insecurities. Trying to master self-help advice can be exhausting. It can become depressing because you feel that you will never be perfect and know everything that will make you the person you think you desire to be.

However, that is the beauty of life. Life is a journey and discovering who you are and learning more knowledge and skills to apply to your life is the beauty of it. Step out of your shoes for a second and view who you are today and then picture you five, ten, years ago and picture that person.

Sometimes you have to sit back to acknowledge how much progress you have actually made.

Life is a beautiful process and you do not have to be perfect. What makes you special are all your little imperfections, quirky moments, and unique things that you do.

So next time you embrace a new journey of self-discovery and self-help, don’t see it as a means to an end. see it as a new journey to take in new skills and get deeper with yourself for yourself.

This shift of mindset will make you more eager to continue to grow yourself because there is not an end goal, there is only an immense amount of knowledge and self-exploration awaiting you. Don’t be scared to get to know yourself better because who you truly are is a beautiful thing.

Much Love,

BB Jean
