Beauty of the Present

Life these days is filled with so many distractions from social media, technology, news, fears, the anxiety of the uncertain, and even the excitement of the future. As great as all the advances of today’s society are and all the positive emotions of wondering and hoping for the future, it distracts away from the present. If you think about it we are typically either dwelling about the past whether it is an event or an action or we are wishing for the future and for the future to be now.

However, when that moment you longed for that was once your future becomes the present, do you even take it in and appreciate it?

Living in the present is one of the hardest skills to master. Today is the youngest you will ever be again and today is full of opportunities, positive interactions, and events that can contribute to your future. Being in the present lets you appreciate all that you have accomplished from your past and helps you put away the anxiety that you once had about the future which is the present now.

You can’t appreciate the moment if your mind is constantly spiraling into a whirlwind of emotions.

I find this hard to do even myself. Living in the crazy-busy city of NYC I can be so busy on the go running to meeting friends, castings, jobs, working out, educating myself, and on and on that, I forget to sit and look up at the sky. I forget to admire the view and the skyline that sits in front of me and I am actually so grateful.

The present may not hold a globe of the future’s events playing out before you, but it can help you calm your peace of mind.

Sitting in the present and breathing in the fresh air, admiring the view in front of you, seeing the people that are around you, and appreciating this moment in time can create a moment of peace. If we are constantly living in a rush and never actually enjoying what we have been longing for that is occurring in the present moment, we will only wish our life away.

The beauty of life is in this moment, in your current state of mind, and in this current environment.

Now, take a deep breath, admire your surroundings, appreciate all that you have accomplished, and vow to do this more on a day to day basis. Get in the habit, and I promise one day you will thank me down the road.

Now go be the best version of yourself!
