Giving Back
Hi everyone and happy almost December! Wow, the holidays are here. I feel like every time I am writing a new post I am surprised by how fast the past week has flown. The holidays are overwhelming I know. Whether you and your family have a tough relationship, you have lost loved ones this past year, trying to get enough money to buy gifts for your kids, or trying to piece together the pieces that have happened this past year.
With everything going on in the world, life being more expensive due to inflation, and the emotions the holidays can bring I want to talk about giving back this season. People often think that giving back is giving money to other people. However, giving back can be done in so many ways.
Sometimes the smallest gesture of giving back and helping people during these times can change someone’s holiday season and/or perspective of life for the better.
As great as it is to give money during the holidays sometimes money can’t fix what people really need which is a helping hand. There are so many ways to give back even in small ways. You can donate some clothes to Salvation Army or an organization that gives clothes to people that can’t afford these items that seem like everyday necessities to us. You can find a place to volunteer whether it is a soup kitchen, a holiday event for senior citizens, or even your older neighbor who does not have any family members and needs help getting a tree to put inside her house for Christmas.
I feel the holidays get so commercialized that they lose their real meaning.
It has all gone to who got the best new gadget, the newest toy, or the newest designer bag. As great as these gifts are they are not the real meaning of the holidays. I love the holidays because they put a sense of joy into the air. They give an air of giving back, of doing good for others, of loved ones being reunited, and of everyone being able to be thankful for what life has blessed them with.
It is so amazing to be blessed with all the necessities that we need without even having to think twice, yet we often forget there are people out there that can’t even afford to put a roof over their heads for their kids and themselves. People can’t afford to buy a hot meal for their family. People can’t afford to put warm socks and shoes on their feet.
So this season I hope you find an outlet to give back.
In the past, I have helped with making and distributing Thanksgiving meals to people who are alone and unable to afford to have a nice meal on this day. I have also volunteered to help people who have struggled financially be able to take home some gifts that were donated to their kids on Christmas.
Doing these deeds in the past has put a lasting memory in my heart and new appreciation into my life.
Find a place to volunteer your time today. It can even be just a small act of kindness or an hour of your life that you choose to give. I promise you that giving back is such an amazing feeling. We all have so much to be blessed and thankful for and it is an amazing feeling to be able to share some of the generosity life has given you with others. Happy Holidays everyone! Free free to comment below or message me on instagram @bbjeanofficial how you gave back this holiday season. I can’t wait to hear!
