Shedding Our Skins
Hi everyone and happy Friday! Sorry for the delay this week. Life has been busy and I am trying to get back into the routine of a life and work balance. I recently came across this quote by Patti Smith:
“We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves.”
I love this quote because life is not a stagnant journey. We are not single-dimensional people we are complex, multi-dimensional, and constantly evolving. You don’t wake up one day at 20, 30, or 40 and say “this is me, this is the final level of my evolution.”
It is funny how life works because as you look at yourself today you are more than likely thinking this is the best version of yourself.
You have grown so much from your past. You have evolved, learned, and achieved so much that you did not realize you would. Now the crazy thing is that next year or even years down the road you will have grown even further toward your goals and personally due to your experiences, personal work, and opportunities that you chose to take.
Now in relating to “shedding our skins” this is the beauty of the transformations that we make.
Skins can be compared to shedding your fears that you had for the future, shedding your insecurities, or even your self-worth. As we look at the future it is so exciting, yet can be very scary. It is scary to think that one choice you make today regarding taking an opportunity or not can lead you onto different baths. Yet, this is the beautiful part about it. It’s like playing Chutes and Ladders.
Sometimes the decisions we make catapult us into achieving what we want faster than we had desired.
Other times the choices we make result in us sliding down a chute and having to pick up and start again. These scenarios can be extremely frustrating. Yet, the new experiences that you obtain from this setback could lead you even further ahead than you originally were.
You have to trust the universe, G-d, a higher being (whatever you believe in) is looking out for your best interest and leading you into the right path
As we grow older we learn so much life knowledge that could never have a monetary value put on it. Life experience is something that can’t be taught.
We don’t learn from anyone or anything else the way we do from our own experiences, mistakes, and success. Lastly, I want to talk about shedding our insecurities.
I can say from personal experience that the self-worth I have learned throughout the past 6 years of my career has not only been life-changing for my success as a model but also for my life in general. I have learned to respect myself, love myself, stand up for myself, and to believe in myself. These qualities I learned from self-help books, great people surrounding me and building me up, and learning to be kinder to myself.
Life is so beautiful despite the struggles we are faced with throughout our lives, and it’s important to look back and see who you were before the beautiful butterfly that you now emerged.
Be proud of your progress, be proud of your personal growth, and be excited for the new you in the future who is going to continue to grow even more beautiful. You got this!
xoxo
